The design of the Lagoon 440 is based on the latest long-range cruising multihull technological developments. Lagoon is the largest builder of cruising catamarans in the world, and the 440 is the most popular cat of its size range. With its raised helm position the 440 is a fine example of Lagoon’s out-of-the-box thinking. It’s a brilliant design feature that solves a multitude of problems and creates an equal number of advantages. First, the skipper has complete visibility in all directions, including both the main and jib. Second, the bridge is far enough above the water that you’re unlikely to take any spray in normal conditions, yet it’s close to deck level for easy access when docking. Every sail-handling line on the 440 leads to the bridge, so the skipper can set, trim and douse the sails without leaving the helm. For sun/rain/spray protection, the 440 has what Lagoon calls a cabriolet top, but it’s really just a small bimini that covers the skipper.
A benefit of the raised bridge is that the cockpit transforms into a lovely and uncluttered entertainment area. There is a console to port with a wet bar.
Down below you are surrounded by large windows with a curved lounge sweeping around to port, and the forward-facing settee is topped by a stainless steel rail. The after side of the saloon is dedicated to the L-shaped galley, with two stainless steel sinks, a three-burner stove with oven, and plenty of counter space. A sliding window serves either for fresh air or as a pass-through into the cockpit.
The large L-shaped galley faces the cockpit and has been designed as a professional area where the chef will be able to reveal all his skills. The saloon on the Lagoon 440 is a superb living space. All four cabins have queen sized beds – the two aft cabins have central beds.
In building the 440, Lagoon has managed to combine their technical expertise, sailing experience and their understanding of aesthetics to produce a quiet, efficient, well-made boat with all the necessary amenities for comfortable living.
Location highlights
THE BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS locally known as NATURE'S LITTLE SECRETS, are easily the best sailing destination in the Caribbean, and arguably one of the best in the world.
Warm weather year round, consistent trade winds and line of sight sailing make the BVI a sailors paradise. Our beautiful country is made up of over 60 islands and cays, mostly unspoiled, with fabulous white sand beaches, plentiful marine life, crystal clear waters and a relaxed island vibe. There are the spectacular boulders of Virgin Gorda and the picturesque village and beaches of Jost van Dyke along with the diversity and seclusion of the other 40 sister islands, islets and cays.
I’ve sailed with BVI Yacht Charters for several years and this year was the smoothest yet. One things for sure when you sail, count on having issues regardless of who you charter through. I choose BVI Yacht Charters because they take care of those issues. They provide clean well maintained boats and the best captain friendly staff from the office to the dock crew. They genuinely care about our charter, going above and beyond to make sure our sail was successful. Thank you again for a fantastic charter experience.
